Workplace Design

Music is the art of arranging sounds in a way that produces beauty, harmony and the expression of emotion.  It is one of the universal cultural aspects of all human societies. It is something that unites people of all different backgrounds. Nashville is nicknamed “music city” because from its very beginning music has been the common thread connecting the life and soul of the city and its people.

Local culture, flexibility, networking, collaboration, concentration and universal design were the driving criteria in this project. With only 5,000sqft, this office floor plan was designed to accommodate unassigned workstations, dual purpose collaboration spaces, conference rooms, support spaces and individual focus zones. Tight on space in the office, acoustics played a large role in the space configuration. The Town hall/Kitchen space was designed to be the furthest from the focus zones and includes strategically placed walls, acoustic panels and corridors to diminish sound transference throughout the office. Exposed ceilings with bold color, pattern and graphics were used in collaboration zones to visually reinforce social spaces. Darker color and subtle graphics were placed in designated focus areas. Tying in the diverse “Music City” local culture was a driving force in all design decisions. This can be seen in various elements such as, the two rounded huddle rooms modeled after recording studios with acoustic panels and “on air” signs, perforated ceiling tiles mimicking recording studio design. Selecting neon light fixtures reminiscent of Nashville’s’ Broadway streets famous neon signs. Designing a trophy storage wall after music hall of fame, including guitars and records featured in between. When presented to the users of the space, interactive QR codes of the virtual office space were provided for them to visualize the office.
